When I try to import an excel file into a newly created table, it doesn't appear to work. I just get a garbled message opening in a new query window (see below).

To import the excel file I am right clicking on the table, selecting 'import data from', then selecting 'file'. The excel field is the same name as the table, as are the column names within the file.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thought I should write the solution to this so that other people can see where I was going wrong...
How to import data from an excel file
1. Open sample.xls in Excel
2. Select data area, eg A1:I3
3. In SqlDbx click on a table with the same columns as in Excel and select "Import Data From"
You should see menu item "Excel - sample.xls". Select it.
All of the individual insert statements are now added to a new script and you can simply run it (F5) from there.

And, what is the format for the datetime columns, in the import?
But in my import, the date fields, only apear NULL.
There's no specific requirement for date format in Excel.
Excel should recognize cell value as date and table column data type should be date or timestamp
