Password Encryption

Our IT team recently updated to sybase 15.  I now get the following message when attempting to connect directly to the Sybase 15 server:

"Adaptive Server requires encryption of the login password on the network"

I am able to successfully logon using ASEisql (it has a checkbox to enable password encryption at the login screen).  Does sqldbx have this capability?

I prefer sqldbx, and was about to purchase the professional version (trying to convince my boss).  If I can't connect to my db's, I'll be forced to use ASEisql.

Re: Password Encryption

This seems to be an easy thing to implement.
Will be added to the list of things for the next release.

Re: Password Encryption

Greetings, I am experiencing this same error on SQLDBX 3.54 Pro.  I work with rfh2001 and found the same free version that the fix was initially implemented in and it works well.  Could you please bundle the same fix in the next release?  Or please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

Re: Password Encryption

This is strange. The fix is there since 2009.
So you have older version and it works, but latest one is not on the same computer?
What is exactly error message says?

Re: Password Encryption

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.  The exact error message at login is:

Error (1640) Adaptive Server requires encryption of the login password on the network.

ct_connect():protocol specific layer:external error: The attempt to connect to the server failed.
ct_connect():protocol specific layer:internal Client Library error:There is a tds login error.  The installed encryption handler returned a status that was not CS_SUCCEED.

Re: Password Encryption

Very strange.
Do you know if your server setup to use "password encryption" or "extended password encryption"?

Re: Password Encryption

From the odbc instance, I only have the option for "Encrypt Password" which is checked and works for the previous version of SQLDBX noted above.

Re: Password Encryption

I am not sure what you mean by "ODBC instance"?
Are you using ODBC connection type or native?

Re: Password Encryption

Why you use ODBC to connect to Sybase?
A lot of features are not available or limited when using ODBC.
The fix was for Open Client connection and not ODBC.
I think your issue is ODBC driver version (15.0.0.346).
Sybase started to support password encryption with 15.0.2 version of ASE.

Re: Password Encryption

Greetings,

As such, can you please provide a link to SQLDBX production version 3.48.  It appears to be the only version we can work with here.

Thanks!
